Course Leader Bios
Dr. Lucy Lawrence, Program Leader
Since arriving to Warren Wilson in 2003, Dr. Lucy Lawrence has lead 13 study away courses to seven different countries. She has taught about the Civil Rights Movement in multiple social work courses including Resist.Reform.Revolt: History of Social Welfare and Advocacy from the Ground Up. She participated as a Diversity Fellow in 2016 and a facilitator of the group in 2017, working with staff and faculty to broaden their capacities related to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and access on campus. In addition to directing the social work program at Warren Wilson, she also serves as director of the Inside Out program, a prison education program which brings Warren Wilson students and courses to the Western Correctional Center for Women in Swannanoa, NC.
Taelyn Reid, Program Assistant
In her role at Warren Wilson, Taelyn Reid M.A. has supervised 16 undergraduate students in community engagement work with 8 local community partners organizations. At her alma-mater Agnes Scott College in Decatur Georgia, she was a teaching assistant for two courses: the History of Student Activism and The Craft of Writing. She holds a Master of Arts in Diplomacy and Global Governance. She has professional experience as a field organizer for reproductive justice and gender equity and well as voter rights and infrastructure. A central part of her work is to empower students to broaden their leadership capacities.
