French Impressionist Summer
Do you want to experience the beauty of French Impressionism in the Appalachian mountains?
The backdrop of the Western North Carolina mountains and the pastoral valley of Warren Wilson College creates a uniquely similar landscape to the ones that inspired many French painters of the 19th century.
During this week-long course we will examine the French painters’ approaches to composition, color, light, and mark making.
Inspired by French artists such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pisarro and many others we will deep dive into their art making techniques that have left a lasting impression on art history. Each day will consist of lessons in art history, still life drawing, and plein-air painting.
We will focus on the Impressionist concepts of relaxation and deep connection with a personal artist voice. Both of which are much needed today. If you are looking to draw a pastoral scene while having a picnic in a field you have come to the right place.
