The Valley Remembers: A People's History of Warren Wilson College, 1100-1999
Taking an approach rooted in environmental and social history, this course explores episodes in college history that speak to the deepest stories of the Swannanoa Valley. The main focal points will be the Swannanoa River, the Swannanoa Gap, Jones Mountain, and the Asheville Farm School. We will go on walks, visit the campus archives, scoot off campus at least once, and have great fun discussing the unpredictable past through seminars based on original writing by the instructor as well as primary documents that pertain to course themes.
