Craft & the Land

Course Cost: $650 (+ $60 materials fee)

Working with materials grown or raised on our land on campus such as wool, natural dyes and other plants, we will explore the processes of dyeing, felting and basketry. Learning about the historical and environmental importance of these materials, come away with a set of hand dyed napkins, a felted bag, a basket, a week of memories, and a variety of new skills.

Working with materials raised, grown and harvested from the beautiful land here in Swannanoa, we will learn about these materials, how to process them, and make some fun objects with them. We will explore histories, and participate in contemporary making with these materials. A felted bag or plant hanger from wool raised down at the farm, coiled baskets from pine needles and other materials such as day lily leaves, and a set of hand dyed napkins with natural dyes grown in our dye garden.
